Democrats Discuss Path To Trump Impeachment — Or Maybe Even Jail

That seems to be the sense in Washington, D.C., as well. In the seemingly never-ending saga of Donald Trump — a man who, barely more than a year ago, was still being laughed at as a candidate — time is increasingly hard to gauge. Scandal after scandal, “misstatement” after “alternative facts,” his nascent presidency’s growth has been stunted by the lack of sleep his staff is surely suffering. We know The Donald himself never loses a wink of sleep, but imagine what life must be like for poor Shady Spice or Kellyanne Coulter Conway.

The problem is, nobody in the administration is quite as crazy as Trump is. Imagine, then, the cognitive dissonance his Cabinet and staff must suffer every time he contradicts himself or one of them. They have to be wondering when the other shoe is going to drop. If by some random misfortune I ended up selling my soul writing memos or, God forbid, speeches for Donald Trump, it would take all the words I’ve ever known to put together something every day that didn’t make me wonder why he hasn’t been impeached yet.

Turns out I’m not alone:

Democrats are beginning to talk about impeaching Donald Trump, and I know I’m not alone when I say… It’s about goddamn time.

And sure, maybe Jared Huffman is just a Representative from California’s prettiest congressional district. What about outside Petaluma?

Okay, so it’s Huffman and Maxine Waters. Anyone else? Well, There’s Rep. Mark Pocan, from Wisconsin:

We should maybe have an impeachment clock. And if we did, I think yesterday moved us about an hour closer to having that need.”

There’s the always fiery Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut:

It may well produce another United States vs. Nixon on a subpoena that went to United States Supreme Court. It may well produce impeachment proceedings.”

Many news outlets have begun keeping a running tally of Democrats who are now openly discussing the possibility of just getting rid of Donald Trump. I mean, it’s not like you aren’t hoping for it. But would it be enough to just remove him from office? Hakeem Jeffries from NY’s 8th district doesn’t think so:

The number of Democrats finally breaking their silence on ousting Trump grows every day. This morning, CNN posted the list they’ve been keeping, and even that isn’t as exhaustive as a thorough search of Twitter could turn up. Will it happen? In the immortal words of Trump’s put-upon Press Secretary, I just don’t know. I thought, for some stupid reason, that it would be the Republicans who suddenly discovered this guy was ruining their party and decided to throw him out themselves. But that doesn’t look like the case anymore.

I’m willing to wager that the midterm election, however, sees record turnout.
