10/19/11 Mitt Romney will be hearing himself utter those words in many a campaign commercial in the months to come and all the way to November 2012 if he’s the Republican nominee. In a heated exchange in last night’s debate with Texas Governor Rick Perry, Romney explained how the lawn care company he hired used undocumented workers and when he found out he let them go. Clearly Romney had deeply held beliefs on illegal immigration. He believed deeply that the revelation of undocumented workers working on his lawn posed a serious threat to his political future. Romney’s comment qualifies as a gaffe under the Michael Kinsley rule, which states that a gaffe is when a politician tells the truth.
