We all know that U.S House Speaker John Boehner is well-known to break out in tears, as he did recently after being reelected as House Speaker. John Boehner is a weeper, the only thing is, what he weeps about usually is something not worth weeping about. He wept uncontrollably once over an Iraq war spending bill.
This is my Bead-Read for Mr. Boehner:
Find something worth weeping about John. Many of us Americans weep, just as we did recently when a madman with a gun, mowed down 26 people including 20 children at a school in Newtown, Connecticut. Right now, I myself could find a fresh batch of tears, just thinking about it. Read more
Though it took going past the deadline into the New Year, the United States Congress managed to settle on a deal that raises taxes on the wealthiest Americans who make over $400 thousand a year for individuals and $450 thousand for couples and yet continues the Bush tax cuts for everyone else.
There was dissatisfaction from both sides of the aisle, as some Democrats were angry about President Obama raising the threshold for raising taxes, from $250 thousand a year to the $450 thousand, and some Republicans were angry because of the lack of spending cuts in the bill. The last step for final passage of the bill in the house, saw the Republican leadership split, with House Speaker John Boehner (OH) voting for the bill and Eric Cantor (VA) voting against.
The bill passed the U.S. House 257-167 and now awaits Obama’s signature which he has assured us he will sign. Read more
Those who poured out in droves to vote for President Obama, who by the way, won a second term in office, deserve to have what they stood in long lines on Election Day for. The Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare, is part of that.
It seems that Republican House Speaker John Boehner does not get it; President Obama won and his signature health care law stands. Our health care system is not going to go back to emergency room care for those who cannot afford health insurance, and tens of millions of Americans without decent care. It is time to move forward, with the full implementation of the law taking effect in 2014, just a little over a year away. Read more
A historical, exhausting and costly campaign led to victory for a President who spent 4 years not tackling global warming, taxing billionaires, jailing bankers or reforming immigration. As a dozen toss-up races were decided, the new Senate bolsters the same majority that's been hostage to a filibustering minority, stymied by lethargy, protocol and conservatism.
And after volunteers pounded the pavement to determine scores of tight House races, we still have Speaker John Boehner. The most expensive election in history just maintained the status quo. But with the extreme right-wing alternative, the status quo doesn't look so bad.
Plus with a record number of women in the Senate, our first gay Senator, first Buddhist Senator, our first Hindu member of Congress, votes for marriage equality across the country, as well as for marijuana reform and union rights & names like Sherrod Brown, Elizabeth Warren, Tammy Baldwin & Alan Grayson, the status quo just got a little better. Despite losing a vote in the Senate yesterday, congressional Republicans are doubling down on their efforts to let employers to pick and choose which health services are covered by their insurance plans under the new health care law.
