If You Can Hear Us Now, Then Why Won't You Listen?

June 6, 2013 by Living Liberally

The Obama NSA has been secretly collecting millions of phone records of American citizens. For all this intelligence-gathering, they haven't found the intelligence to realize how wrong this is.

Turkish authorities have heard the rumbles of uprisings across Europe and the Mid East, but haven't listened to their own people's concerns, nor learned how to peacefully quell a protest.

A Senator who listened to the challenges faced by New Jersey & the nation has passed away. A Governor who can only hear the drumbeat of ambition has chosen an illogical expensive way to replace him.

With governmental leaders these days, you don't have to ask, "Can you hear me now?" But when it comes to responding to their citizens, the real question is, "Why the heck won't you listen?"

If you want to be heard, listened to & engaged, start a convo with the welcoming cohort at your local progressive social club

I Am a Teacher, Hear Me Roar: Another Way to Protest Gun Violence

January 15, 2013 by CSGV

[The following piece is a guest blog by global educator Laurence Peters. The views expressed here are his own, not those of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence.]

In 1994, perhaps one of the most remarkable events of the 20th century occurred. The former leader of the anti-apartheid movement, Nelson Mandela, who was held captive for 27 years, was elected prime minister of South Africa. This peaceful handover of power was achieved not on the battlefield as many had feared, but because the world had divested from South African companies.    Read more

O'Donnell States it Plain [EvolutionBlog]

May 17, 2012 by ScienceBlogs

When MSNBC fired Keith Olbermann and replaced him with Lawrence O'Donnell, I was a bit annoyed. But now that Olbermann had crashed and burned over at Current TV, and O'Donnell has turned into a pretty effective pundit, I have changed my mind. For an example of why I like O'Donnell so much, consider this depressingly accurate tirade about the Newsweek cover with the headline, “The First Gay President.”    Read more

Gay Republicans Angry With Obama Over Announcement

May 15, 2012 by fidlerten

Reading an article from DeWayne Wickham in the Tuesday morning edition concerning a group called Log Cabin Republicans, which is a gay organization for Republican gay people, some things came to mind. For me as a gay Democrat of why gay people, no matter what their political affiliation is, would be angry because America’s first black president gave them his support to marry the one they love.    Read more

ObamaCare...the Others Don't

March 29, 2012 by Living Liberally

Conservatives go to the High Court with the low goal
of making it harder for Americans to get healthcare,
yet while they threaten to undo Obama's achievement,
the President's own national poll numbers rise.

Republicans realize that Romney's the one
& start to close ranks if not exactly rally --
yet amid talk of car elevators & jokes about lay-offs,
his own approval ratings continue to sink.

The Tea Party Congress does what it promised:
attack benefits, defend the rich, obstruct progress
-- yet as they succeed in stalling all legislation,
those who elected them are having buyer's remorse.    Read more

Bemused Remark For the Day [EvolutionBlog]

March 12, 2012 by ScienceBlogs

As I write this, the lead headline over at HuffPo is, “Shock Poll: 52% of Mississippi GOP Voters Say Obama is a Muslim,” leading to this story. The shock, I would think, is that the number is so low.

Strange enough: 2012 Election May be About Women’s Rights

March 9, 2012 by fidlerten

I’m pinching myself to be sure I’m actually not dreaming as I watch the Republican Party hand over the 2012 election to us Democrats.

Back in 2010, Republicans took over the U.S. House of Representatives and state houses across the country. They did this on a platform of providing jobs and opposition to the new law on the books; the Affordable Care Act.  But nowhere was there any talk about social issues, such as abortion and especially not contraception. Yet here we are; Republicans are introducing and passing laws all across the country to block abortions and funding for contraception for women – it would seem they had a secret agenda that they predetermined wouldn’t help them get elected.    Read more

Rick Santorum Criticizes Obama Over Education: “What a Snob!”

February 28, 2012 by fidlerten

President Barack Obama emphasized the need for higher education for our youth during his last State of the Union address, saying“If you can’t stop tuition from going up, the funding you get from taxpayers will go down. Higher education can’t be a luxury – it’s an economic imperative that every family in America should be able to afford.”

Rick Santorum’s Judgment of Obama’s Christianity Shows Lack of Christianity

February 19, 2012 by fidlerten

I realize that the former senator from Pennsylvania needs to throw some raw meat at his conservative base but President Barack Obama’s Christianity should be off the table when it comes to his criticism. To me, that’s a personal attack on someone’s spirituality and it shows a lack of real Christian values from Mr. Santorum.

Recently Santorum spoke concerning President Obama’s agenda, saying “not about you. It’s not about your quality of life. It’s not about your jobs. It’s about some phony ideal. Some phony theology. Not a theology based on the Bible. A different theology.”    Read more

GOP Boxes itself in on Obama Contraception Compromise

February 12, 2012 by Code Blue Politics

2/12/12 The Catholic Health Association, the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities and Catholic Charities USA all support President Obama’s compromise on requiring contraception coverage. Yet Republicans appear hell-bent on opposing Obama’s plan to ensure that women receive health care coverage for contraception. Buoyed by the U.S.    Read more
