When MSNBC fired Keith Olbermann and replaced him with Lawrence O'Donnell, I was a bit annoyed. But now that Olbermann had crashed and burned over at Current TV, and O'Donnell has turned into a pretty effective pundit, I have changed my mind. For an example of why I like O'Donnell so much, consider this depressingly accurate tirade about the Newsweek cover with the headline, “The First Gay President.” Read more
Like a scene out of countless youtube videos, an Army dad surprised his son at school after returning home from Afghanistan yesterday.
This surprise, however, took a slightly different turn.
“Daaaaaaaaaddy!!!”
“Hi son. I'm home.”
“Oh Daddy, I love you! I missed you so much!”
“I missed you too! More than anything.”
“um..........where's Mom?”
“sigh”
“Dad? Where's Mom?”
“Son, there's no right time to tell you this, so I am choosing now. Your mom and I are getting a divorce. She's back at the house packing.”
“Wait......what?”
The newly reunited son and father then went home, where the Marine met his very excited dog for the first time in eight months. He then took the dog to get neutered.
So it was last Sunday morning and the "news" shows and respected journalists were yammering about whether or not coming out for same sex marriage will help or hurt Obama’s re-election efforts.
"Sixty percent of those polled indicate his stance will have no effect on their vote; 16% said they are less likely to vote for him while yadayadayada." Read more
“No more free rides for uteruses in MY state!” cried Governor Brewer, as she signed off on a bill that would end most public funding to abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood. Citing her supporters, who do not wish to have their tax dollars support cancer screenings, vaccinations, and health education (editor's note: this should read “cancer screenings, vaccinations, health education, AND abortions. We apologize for the error), Governor Brewer called it a “common sense” law that “closes loopholes”. Read more

I recently had a conversation with Greg Gorey of Think Atheist Radio about my book Among the Creationists. We discussed the history and cultures of creationism, the problem of evil, methodological naturalism, my experiences socializing with creationists and several other things besides. From my end I can honestly say it was one of the most interesting conversations I have had on these topics, so I hope you enjoy it. The discussion is fifty minutes long. So go have a listen and let me know what you think! Read more
In a brilliant parody of the HSUS shelter ads, humane watch has put sad looking lawyers in cages to emphasize that donations to HSUS do not fund shelters.
HSUS is like PETA but with deodorant and suits. Hah! I love it. HSUS is PETA. Read more
For most of the Americans who are old enough to well remember 9/11, which means most of us because it’s only been less than eleven years, we know the kind of pain, sadness and especially anger that we felt after those planes crashed into buildings and killed so many Americans. We also know the exhilaration we felt when we discovered that a Navy SEAL team took Osama bin Laden out.
Osama bin Laden’s death was one of those rare moments that we were all Americans and it didn’t matter if you were Republican or Democrat, rich or poor, black, white, Hispanic or even Muslim; we were all overjoyed that the man who had masterminded the attacks on 9/11 was dead, except maybe those who agreed with the machinations of an evil man. Could Politicus figure out some way to make writing a new 'thread' or topic a little more difficult? This seems to be a several-step procedure, and this being the 2nd time I've tried it, I have a low level of confidence that it's actually going to work.
A Democratic strategist is taking some major head over a comment about Mitt Romney's wife.

HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS???
A couple weeks ago, the would-be-hilarious-if-they-werent-so-dangerous group, the National Organization for Marriage (OMNOMNOMONOMNOM!) had their 2008 donor list leaked via the Human Rights Campaign (pdf).
One of the largest donations came from none other than the president of the John Templeton Foundation, John Templeton ($450,000) and his wife Josephine ($100,000). Read more
