Secretary Clinton Speaks for Many Americans – to Muslim World

September 15, 2012 by fidlerten

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, speaking at an Eid ul-Fitr reception marking the end of Ramadan, spoke clearly of what many Americans, especially Christians feel about the video at the center of the attacks on the embassy in Benghazi. The attack killed four U.S. Embassy staff, including U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens.    Read more

American Theocracy

April 26, 2012 by fidlerten

The founding fathers of this nation were very wise men when they inserted into our Constitution the clear separation of church and state, surely they must have realized from the history they knew of at that time, of what a society becomes when it is ruled by religion.

We Americans can also see the harm that Sharia Law can do to a Muslim nation, where women aren’t even allowed to drive or have a job outside the home. And if you’re gay; you’d better keep it to yourself because it could mean your death if the government finds out.    Read more

The Meaning of Christianity is Hijacked

April 20, 2012 by fidlerten

Anyone who pays attention to my blogs knows that I profess to be a Christian and a gay man. Some don’t think those two things can go together but I thank God that they can.

I have been a Christian since I was about ten years old but I never really understood it very well until the later years of my life; you might say it was a gradual learning experience. At the age of eleven I became a boy preacher, mainly spurred on by my grandmother and the pastor of my church – the latter giving me a beginner’s minister’s license on my twelfth birthday. I was gay long before I became a Christian but I didn’t know it until after I became a Christian.    Read more

Would You Strip-Search Moses? Stop-and-Frisk Jesus?

April 5, 2012 by Living Liberally

At Passover, we celebrate the Israelites' Exodus, as they marched without a permit across the Red Sea… today Occupy marchers without permits are faced with police netting, pepper spray and mass arrests.

At Easter, we remember a man wrongfully judged & crucified, while today we make indefinite detention a national policy & conservatives defend "stand your ground" laws which are excessive, unjust and extremely dangerous.

This weekend, we'll be honoring dissidents & protesters, yet today our police go undercover to infiltrate peaceful protest groups and student organizations.

Moses would have been strip searched. Jesus would have been stopped and frisked. The NYPD definitely would've had them under surveillance.    Read more

Americans Choose: Democracy or Theocracy?

Republicans – because they’ve figured it out that they’re losing on the economic politics of this next election, they’re returning to one of their old standbys – social issues. We’re back to the same wedge issues that they’ve used in the past to divide us and to change the subject.    Read more

The Compassion of Heathens

Is there a difference between a religious person and someone who isn’t religious when it comes to having compassion? Does religion make someone care about others or is it that one cares though they’re religious or not?    Read more

Is Evangelicalism a Cult?

February 21, 2012 by fidlerten

I realize the title of this article may seem a little bit on the baiting side and it’s meant to be.  Mostly because it’s time to put the shoe on the other foot and see how that fits. And, just because Evangelicalism is so popular in America, doesn’t make it right on that aspect alone. If you go to other countries in other parts of the world, other religions are more popular, such as in the Middle East. Islam is most popular in some countries and even Hinduism in others or Buddhism in even other more Eastern countries. Evangelicalism is popular here but it isn’t in most other countries.    Read more

Contraception Fight: Religious Freedom or Religious Domination?

I, like many Americans, never thought I’d see the day that we’d be arguing over birth control – I thought this had been settled long ago. Surely, most women have used birth control in their lives, mainly so that they don’t go having a pile of children they can’t take care of and yet still have an enjoyable sex life; this includes even married women so it’s not about promiscuity but about controlling the number of children one wants to have and when they want to have them.    Read more

Can Liberals be Christians or Do Conservatives Own Jesus?

A friend of mine who is a police officer and also a Christian conservative was very surprised when I told him that I was a Christian too. He always thought that liberals couldn’t be Christians.    Read more

I love all my Progressive Brothers And Sisters. Truly I do. However the more I read, the more I come to understand exactly how deeply out of touch many of them are.    Read more
