Governor Fallon and other Governors Turn Down Federal Dollars for Health Care

November 20, 2012 by fidlerten

I live in one of the states whose governor decided to refuse cooperating with the federal government on implementing ObamaCare — in Oklahoma.  I am also one of many who do not have health care but needs it. My income is not low enough to qualify for Medicaid and not high, enough to afford health care, that is — under the old system.

ObamaCare is the first time I will be able to afford health care. I will still have to pay for part of my health care but at a rate, I can afford. However, my governor, Mary Fallon, does not seem to care much about my health care or others like me. Even though I am a full-time working Oklahoman who pays state taxes, what I need and many other Oklahomans need does not seem to be of a concern to Governor Fallon.    Read more

Citizens of Wisconsin finally have their day at the polls and a chance to win a recall of Governor Scott Walker who, since taking office, has targeted public unions, forcing them to take cuts to their benefits while also taking away their collective bargaining rights for future negotiations. Over one million citizens of Wisconsin signed a petition back in January for a recall election of Scott Walker, which is happening today.    Read more

Why ask scientists for ideas when politicians are so great at making things up? [erv]

May 15, 2012 by ScienceBlogs

There are two groups of people I would be perfectly happy if they all just disappeared. Like, right now.

1-- Politicians
2-- Clergy/reverends/pastors/whatevers

Even the shittiests, hipsterish of musicians contributes more to positive to society than those two groups of people. Stephanie Meyer has contributed more positive to society than those two groups of people. The fictional characters on the HBO television show 'Girls' (I cant even hate watch that show) have contributed more positive to society than those two groups of people.

Politicians and 'people of god' are useless, stupid creatures that need to get real jobs and contribute to society like everyone else.    Read more

In the continual spread of assaults on women's reproductive freedom in the wake of the 2010 tea party movement, another state, Idaho, is legislating women receive unnecessary and invasive medical procedures prior to obtaining abortion.

This is part of an unprecedented effort at the state level to restrict reproductive rights, and in 2011 a record number of these measures have passed.    Read more

Compassion is Neither Blue or Red

I’m a liberal, but I also live in a conservative state – Oklahoma.  I was born in this state though I’ve also lived for fourteen and a half years in California. California is mostly a liberal state. When it comes to finding compassionate people – those who have empathy for others – I can find it wherever I look, in conservative bastions and in liberal strongholds.

Compassion also can come from religious people or non-religious people. It doesn’t take religion to see someone hurting and care about what’s happening to them and even reaching out to them with charity and compassion.

I’ve met preachers who were selfish and only thought of themselves. I’ve met prostitutes who would give you the shirt off their backs if they thought you needed help.    Read more

In a debate on the floor of the Georgia State house over a bill to force women to bring all pregnancies after 20 weeks to term, even in cases of dead or non-viable fetus, this Georgia representative reaches a new low. State Rep Terry England seems to be suggesting pigs and cows do it, why can't humans?

Rep. Terry England compares women to cows, pigs and chickens. from Bryan Long on Vimeo.    Read more

Voter ID Laws: Stopping Fraud or Blocking Votes?

March 13, 2012 by fidlerten

fidlerten's picture

If this was Putin’s Russia or many of the countries that are being ruled by dictators or regimes that are determined to stay in power, even if it means cheating the voting system in those countries, Voter ID laws would make a lot of sense. But, we’re not one of those countries. Our voting system is a very accurate system compared to other countries systems and especially to those countries ruled by dictators, if there is a vote at all.    Read more

You Can Take Government Out of Religion, but…

February 22, 2012 by fidlerten

To finish the title of this article is to remember an old cigarette commercial that anyone who’s old enough to remember cigarette commercials can remember. That brand of cigarette was Salem Cigarettes and the commercial sang a song that went like this:

You can take Salem out of the country but, you can’t take the country out of Salem.

So in this case I refer to religion and government instead of Salem cigarettes and the country. In other words:

You can take Government out of religion but you can’t take religion out of government. It would have been just too long of a title but I hope you get my point. Or I should say – this is what Republicans seems to want us to believe nowadays.    Read more
